MK Dons 1 Charlton Athletic 2
F5, F5, F5, F5..
For about 90 seconds Addicks’ celebrated a little breathing space after Josh Megennis headed in his third in four matches to put us 2-0 up at Stadium MK. However, nope, they had to keep us all on tenterhooks, and for me that was pressing the refresh button what appeared every couple of minutes, but it was probably more likely every few seconds on Twitter whilst on a flight from Austin, Texas to New York.
Kieran Agard pulled a goal back and then it was a little like the Alamo (which I saw for myself in San Antonio this week) as we had to shield against a load of pressure as MK Dons, who are in big relegation trouble, threw everything at us.
Nonetheless as the game wore on and my thumb kept hitting F5, we played the game out safely, and could even have added to our score, which let’s be honest would have added a few months to all of our lives. Give credit to Robinson because we are quick to jump on in him when it goes pear shaped, he brought subs on, changed the formation, and added some fortitude to the defence to help bring home the 3 points.
An important win, our first for a month and we nip back into the top 6.
Quote: “Those fans who were in the stands were outstanding. I was trying to get them going with two or three minutes to go, but they were already at a phenomenal noise level.”

I can’t agree with Robinson that this was an excellent performance. We did just enough to beat a poor side who i imagine will be relegated. We would have struggled against a more potent team, particularly down our right hand side where Chris Solly looks off the pace to me. Good to hear that Fosu will be back next week, didn’t see much from Kaikai today.
Assume you were there Tex?
Yep agreed nothing to celebrate. MKD have won once since November. Next week will be a better judgement of any promotion credentials.
Wins a win fellas
Local game for me, back home 5.30 3 points in the bag, happy days.
My youngest lad made it back from New York after a half term school trip just in time to join me and struggled through a largely soporific first half – second half was a different story.
I thought we looked comfortable at 1-0 and good value for the second but with the red smoke from the flare still clearing, there we went again.
To be fair to the Scouse Tinkermam, bringing Lennon on this time and going five across the back made us look more comfortable and despite a couple of close calls, we were reasonably assured – he was proper pumped at FT and good on him – maybe…just maybe
School trip in New York? What happened to Swanage?
Hornimans Museum was about as good as it got for me – sign of the times alas
I know. They don’t know how lucky they are…. 👴🏻
Like Steve this was a local game for me and my kids.
First half we didn’t look great but they were awful and we were in control. It’s a real shame Aribo’s effort at the start of the second half only clattered the upright/crossbar, it would have been a fantastic goal. Magennis also had a one-on-one with the keeper saved far too easily and I’m sure he was as disappointed as the rest of us were. Between minutes 60 and 80 we were under a LOT of pressure defensively but clung on. They had another couple of chances late on but Amos gathered them and the heart rate gradually dropped and in the final five minutes of injury time it looked to me more likely that we’d score a third than they’d get a second.
There was a small ruckus around us as one group of our fans disagreed very vocally with another group about how sweary they could each be. While it didn’t come to blows – and for one moment I honestly thought it might do – I did have to apologise to my 12 year old daughter for the number of C-bombs dropped in the 5 minute tirade. I know there are those that consider that “it’s football” but it was honestly sickening and reminded me of far darker days that I really thought we’d moved away from. Grown men should know and behave far better.
On the upside, 3 points, placed 6th and the singing from our fans was incredible. Not sure who was drumming but I don’t think he missed a single beat in the first 30 minutes. Seriously impressive work!
Was sitting just across from that squabble Dean and agree, thought it was going to kick off. Division amongst our fans is not nice to see but I’ve seen it a few times. Also can’t understand why some fans feel the need to go into a running battle with opposition stewards for 90 minutes, just focus on the game and 3 points.
I’ve noticed it as well. I don’t think I’ve ever seen us more divided, and I’m not sure we can solely blame bad ownership for that.
My son and i stood at the back near the drummer CA – no disunity, and we sung non stop from start to finish, with a 10 minute finale of Robinson’s Red Army. Pretty good considering our recent form, and better than most sets of away fans we get at the Valley. Went mental at both goals, and it was good to see small groups at the front pumped up as well.
I remember at the famous defeat away at Dagenham how I saw, and was involved in,three arguments before the match had even started! I think it is just one of those things that happens, and not indicative of the current CAFC climate.
Most post match comments on Charlton Life have been very negative about the performance and who we were playing, and whilst I’m not at all confident we will get in the play offs, I just really enjoyed the day and for a while couldn’t give a tinkers cuss about where we will finish in the Spring!
