My 2017 Top Five Favourite TV Shows

Next on the agenda of my Top Fives is TV Shows. Somehow over the years, not helped by having just two cinema screens on the island, I rarely watch a movie, but I love to get stuck into a TV series. By the way I’m always looking for recommendations, so any suggestions are much appreciated.

So here are my Top Five Favourite TV Shows that I watched during last year:

1. The Handmaid’s Tale
Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel and starring the wonderful Elizabeth Moss, this show was disturbing, terrifying and affecting but absorbingly brilliant. Season 2 is being worked on and it should sweep the Golden Globes tonight.

2. The People v OJ Simpson: An American Crime Story
Bringing all the memories of the OJ case back to life with brilliant writing and acting. The series not only tells the story of the trial and it’s personalities but also told us a lot about America at that time.

3. Line of Duty – Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4
I binged through all four seasons of this superb BBC police drama featuring their anti-corruption unit. The plot has plenty of twists and I spent many a night on the edge of the sofa. Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar are both excellent in it too.

4. Better Call Saul – Seasons 1, 2, 3
I shied away from this for a while because I was convinced it would be a poor man’s Breaking Bad. How wrong I was. We follow the evolution of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) into Saul Goodman, our lovable rogue hero. The show is intrinsically linked to Breaking Bad but has a life all of it’s own.

5. The Fall – Seasons 1, 2
Starring Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan this cat and mouse psychological thriller shows more like a horror movie about a normal family man with a monstrous secret, tracked by a mysterious policewoman. I’ve just downloaded season 3.
