Charlton Athletic 2 Peterborough United 2

90+4 mins..

A storming comeback should not be sniffed at and can often be a catalyst for a good run, but it should not hide the fact that this was a poor performance from Charlton last night. Defensively it sounded as if we were all over the place, with Bauer particularly poor, and we should have already been behind before Posh scored their opener.

Yet, rightly and in tune with his character, Robinson did not sugar coat the performance, yet like the rest of us more than happy that we showed the character to get something from the game. I’m particularly pleased for Karlan as well, and I really do hope he can push on from here.

A point keeps our noses ahead of the chasing play-off pack but it is very noticeable how Wigan, Scunthorpe and Blackburn are getting into their stride and we are treading a bit of water. Robinson talks of 7 players being out, but that is part and parcel of it being a squad game, and our bench last night was extremely lightweight, although by all accounts Anfernee Dijksteel was impressive when he came on.

However I have a few alarm bells ringing. At how reliant we are on Holmes, and how much we miss Fosu with Marshall not yet showing up as a better replacement, a lack of number 10 options, and our inability to put the ball in the net.

Leon Best’s signing is a real show of desperation. Yes, we need numbers but Best being thrown straight in after not playing competitively for almost a year shows how much we are at a disadvantage compared to our rivals.

Anyway, I will end as I started. Nothing like a storming comeback and credit to the majority of a low crowd sticking with it. They too got their rewards.

You have got it right. The character of this team reminded me of previous and more successful squads.

I am beginning to think Robinson despite everything is not a bad manager. He certainly seems to get the most from what is lets face it a thin squad and that of course is the problem. Despite everything I sat in the North stand last night and thought how much better this would be if the owner backed this young manager with a half decent set of reserves. He deserves better and will probably one day go on to greater things because all the time we have Duchatelet it will not be with us. The man and his regime have to go. What happened to the take over talks?

Good news is that Anfernee Dijksteel immediately settled in and looked sound.

Dijksteel came on and was very impressive I am personally pleased because I have told people how good he is. His normal position is defensive midfield, like Khasi. He can also play central defence but physically he is better suited by the other positions. If another central defender is injured whilst Pearce and Bauer are out CAFC will have a big problem.

Rierti, is Dijksteel ready to replace Kashi if we lose him in the summer?

Dijksteel played most of his games for U23s last season as the holding player in midfield some as a central defender I can’t remember him playing full back He played fullback in preseason this year and looked comfortable.
He is one of the best players we have developed in recent years and I am sure he could replace Kashi hopefully in Championship.
