Charlton Athletic 2 MK Dons 2

Frustration..

Listening on the radio at 1-0 I was thinking if we don’t get this second then they are bound to get a chance. After Josh Magennis headed us into an early lead we dominated for the rest of the first period. In the 2nd half Mark Marshall should have secured the points when he failed from a one-on-one.

Then, sure enough after Reeves was fouled the referee, who got more unhinged as the game went on, played on and Agard scored with a header at the far post. It almost got worse when Aneke, described by Karl Robinson as the best player in the league, also fluffed a one-on-one chance.

Sarr, who spends a lot of time in the top third, perhaps should have done better when he hit a shot straight at their ‘keeper. But with the time ticking down, Kashi deftly let in substitute Fosu who’s wayward shot was put into his own net by Goldbourne. Cue some running around the living room.

However our joy was short lived when the referee relied on a lino half a pitch away to give a penalty which was right in front of his nose. On the face of it it sounded a right cock up, but seeing it on video I’m now not quite as sure as Kashi should never have gone in for the tackle. Agard put it away for 2-2.

Two points dropped but I do rate Robbie Nielsen’s side despite their inconsistent start to the season. That was our first league game for 3 weeks. 3rd from bottom Rochdale visit on Tuesday.

    Wasteful Ricky Holmes
Two glorious set piece opportunities on the edge of the box (second had more than a whiff of a dive) – first one hits the wall, second ballooned over the bye line – for don’t get too carried away with the ref, only ourselves to blame
    Must do better Tuesday

Robinson was right on the first MKD goal Reeves was fouled and could have drawn the culprit a yellow card. However, the second was a penalty Kashi tripped the MKD player by contacting his
back leg.The problem was the referee who had the best view didn’t give it but once the linesman put his flag across his chest he did.
We should have won but Reeves and Marshall underperformed probably due to lack of competitive action. Hopefully they will improve with time on the pitch.
I think the injuries to Bauer and Clarke meant the subs bench was understrength proving we need prudent recruiting in January.
You will remember that in a previous reply I said that KAG should be given time as he is only 20. But he has completely lost confidence and has failed to contribute when brought on.

Rierti – I haven’t seen KAG play in the flesh for while, but from memory and from what others say I don’t think he has it unfortunately. I’m not sure a loan out will change that either. I think sadly he is more suited to the National League like Pigott.

One positive I would say was that we were able to replace first teamers like Clarke and Bauer with first team abilities, but as usual under RD, beyond the first 16 we are down to kids, which are wild cards. Do we get a Konsa or do we get a KAG..
