Falling short in the window again
Like a broken record, with 7 days left until deadline day, judging by Karl Robinson’s comments this morning it is looking more and more likely that the owner will leave his manager with another unbalanced and incomplete squad. Not for the first time, the first eleven looks very competitive and Robinson to his credit has created a playing system and a spirit which could take this team a long way towards the goal of promotion, except beyond the first team and three or four others it falls off a cliff.
Whereas we have 5 capable centre-halves, and an abundance of central midfielders we have two keepers, one of which doesn’t want to play second fiddle, and just two strikers, one of whom maybe gone by the end of next week.
it is upfront where we have the biggest problem, and one that has existed for the longest time. Duchatelet moved on Vetokele, Ajose and Watt, and hasn’t replaced them. I’ll give you that buying a striker who can get goals isn’t the easiest of deals, but this is not a two-week project, this, as Robinson bandied freely in April, is something that involves a plan.
There is no doubt that Robinson is being hindered by previous mismanagement, such as spending £800,000 on Nicky Ajose. A player bought by Katrien Meire, but if only Duchatelet, the richest owner in our history, would push the boat out a little. One would think the bid for Grigg must have already been substantial. How much more does it need? Have a mill? How much did Duchatelet bank on Lookman?
Robinson is getting his excuses ready. “I’m having the most unique window ever.”
Unique. Weird, even. It’s a feeling we know well.

I’m having an unscheduled trip back home so will be at the Bury game, Wonder if I’ll see any more new faces?
Bangkokaddick
Hopefully unscheduled for good reasons Steve.
Yes. All good. I’ll mail you sometime.
I see that “mega-gob” – aka Karl Robinson – has stated that he has a squad that could get automatic promotion…..
Well, he must be the only optimist down at the Valley!
Yes, he’s put together a useful squad – but it’s unbalanced and wanting between the sticks and up front.
If Robinson thinks that he’s going to get through the whole season without any first teamer succumbing to tears, pulls or serious injury then he’s taking optimism to a new level!
I honestly, sincerely, hope that he’s right. Nothing would please me more than to see Charlton back at the level they were before the Belgian ****wits came in and ruined our club….. but as a supporter, oops sorry, I mean customer, who has been around the track a bit longer than both Robinson and Meire and who has watched a higher standard of football than Dushatalot I, and a few thousand other Addicks, know that we are likely to finish another season in mid-table….or worse.
The only chance is for Dushatalot to put his hands in his pockets and dig deep in the next 6 days….and the chances of that happening? About 20-1 against……
10/10 to Robinson for optimism, but only 4/10 for realism.
