STVV take another one

If Cristian Ceballos was always going to depart then it begs the question why Karl Robinson used him extensively in the pre-season games thus far. I don’t suspect the ex-Spurs player was one of the highest earners, and those that saw him in Ireland and at Greenwich said he impressed. He may have done a job, although every time I think of Ceballos I think of that corner.

Robinson said today that he has been impressed by Karlan Ahearne-Grant and Naby Sarr in pre-season, so watch them leave next.

STVV have now signed Vetokele, Teixeira and Ceballos, all on wages that we can’t afford. They also signed Botaka on a permanent as well. It’s probably only me that has an alarm bell ringing in his head!

I wrote before that I’d be happy to see a bit of a clear out as long as we can replace them with hungry players that can fill some gaping holes. One of those should be England U19 Euro winning captain Jay Dasilva, who is expected to put pen to paper on a season long loan before the week is out.

Robinson says he needs four more players – a goalkeeper, a right back, a striker and a left back, meaning the Chelsea youngster. That is, one would assume, if no one else exits the building. Question is whether the sums now add up to allow Robinson to bring in the four players he needs.

In my view, Ceballos is a decent player and has potential. I suspect that Robbo did consider him but he is forced to balance the wage bill and has alternatives in mind. A pity though, Ceballos has skills not seen in Crofts and others. Getting Dasilva for a season is exciting- would be good to see confirmation of this.
