A look at Charlton’s 2017/18 fixtures

Mhmm. Doesn’t get any more exciting than this. 2017/18 fixtures.

There’s a bit of a West Country feel to the start of next season. Bristol Rovers, who somehow we thumped twice last season, are our visitors for the first game of the season which kicks off at The Valley on Saturday, August 5th. Then the team spend a week in the West Country. Tuesday at Exeter in the Caracas Cup, or whatever it is called, and Saturday at newly promoted Plymouth Arygle. For those still negotiating with the missus on a summer holiday, I think I have a suggestion.

We play at relegated Rotherham on my birthday at the end of August and host relegated Wigan in mid-September on a Tuesday night before we travel to Gillingham the following Saturday, the 16th. We play 7 games in September all told.

Billy Clarke, Mark Marshall and Adam Chicken meet their old team mates at Valley Parade on October 21st, and week later we have our sole London home derby of the season. In mid-November Karl Robinson will be roundly booed by MK Dons’ bus load of travelling supporters. That’s if he is still in charge of course. 

Then, in what was the highlight of today’s fixture announcements, on Saturday, December 9th we celebrate 25 years and 4 days back at The Valley against, who else, but Portsmouth. If the club requested this then kudos to them. If that is a day to remember good times, then potentially our next home game against Blackpool, could see large demonstrations against bad times. A trip to promotion favourites Blackburn is sandwiched in between and we get to drive to Southend on Boxing Day.

On December 30th we have a ugly looking travel day to Wigan before returning home to face the Gills on New Year’s Day. Oldham at home maybe FA Cup 3rd Round day, so we can safely say that we will be available. Bradford at home looks the highlight of February. 

Trips to AFC Wimbledon and Peterborough begin March followed by home games against last season’s surprise side Fleetwood and newly promoted Plymouth. 

The 5 games April – Rotherham (h), Bristol Rovers (a), Scunthorpe (h), Pompey (a) and Blackburn (h) looks a difficult run of fixtures. I hope we have enough points by then to stay up….

Then a nice little promotion party on a Sunday in, er, Rochdale. You don’t come to League One for glamour!
