A tribute worthy of a hero

There has been very little to praise the club over the past three years but the tribute they announced today to PC Keith Palmer deserves applauding.

The club will donate 50 per cent of all of next Tuesday’s ticket sales to the fund for PC Palmer’s family, while Charlton players will donate the entirety of their appearance fees. There will also be a one-minute silence before the game, whilst the Charlton players will wear black armbands, as well as a special shirt which will be emblazoned with hero Keith’s Police warrant number, ‘P204752’, in tribute.

The red and white scarf remains draped over Keith’s seat in the East Stand until the MK Dons game and the red seat has been temporarily replaced by a white one which will bear his warrant number and remain in place for the remainder of the season.

Future plans are in discussion to remember the life our fellow Addick by placing a permanent memorial stone for Keith behind the Sam Bartram statue at the rear of The Valley’s West Stand.

Big credit must go to media man Ollie Groome and head of operations Mick Everett for playing a big role in organizing this.

I hope as many Addicks as possible forget our differences and remember this hero of a man by attending next Tuesday’s game if they are able.

Charlton are to be commended on their response to P.C Keith Palmer and this adds to my belief that things are turning for the better at the club. Time for the dissenters to start getting up to date with what the future may hold rather than the disasters of the past

    • Hate to pee on your parade John. But defeat on Saturday could leave us 2 points above the relegation zone. The future is not especially orange….

Get a grip John. Doing something that is morally right for once does not erase what they have done over the last 3 years. There are undoubtedly some good people still involved at the club and I hope they stay. But those in charge have got to go.
