Charlton Athletic 1 Bolton Wanderers 1

I followed on Twitter and it had me thinking how many thousands of Addicks now tune in remotely instead of going to games at The Valley. Just 10,000 official Addicks at the game, one of the season’s more attractive fixtures, with those in the ground putting the number more in the region of 8,000.

The first half we created the better opportunities, although Solly did have to clear off his line, this when playing in midfield after Johnnie Jackson went off with a slight injury. Why Bauer came on forcing a major reshuffle when either Lookman or Botaka appeared more obvious only Russell Slade will know why he preferred to make a negative move.

Bolton scored early in the 2nd half and it sounded as if we struggled after that against a very physical Phil Parkinson’s Bolton. However we kept plugging away and grabbed a share of the spoils, and ended Wanderers 100% start to the season, when Ademola Lookman fired home in the 7 minutes of added time.

A point then, but it only sought to highlight the differences in our threadbare squad compared to Bolton’s, who still contain many of their Championship players and have a lot more depth at Parkinson’s disposal. They look a lot more capable of a return than we do in these early weeks of the season.

It was nice to hear that both Parky and Laurie Wilson were given good receptions though. Fully deserved especially for Parky who worked his socks off in not only attempting to fix Pardew’s mess but also operating within tough financial constraints.

Slade did say that he hopes to do transfer business next week, although large doubts still hover over Lookman and the club continue to explore options to move on the expensive Teixeira and the mostly useless Ba. Both of whom have disappeared from sight of the first team squad, already short of numbers.

A North Korean flag was unraveled over Katrien Meire’s head, which was hastily removed by stewards. This in response to Meire’s continued efforts to manipulate the adverse publicity towards her and her boss brought unceasingly by Charlton’s supporters.

West Midlands police last week confirmed that the Walsall chairman had asked stewards to cover Roland Out writing on a flag at the bequest of Meire. This against the police’s wishes.

The fight goes on, as does Russell Slade’s sides adjustment to League One.

Slade says: “We feel he’s (Lookman) got a huge part to play and as I’m sat here talking to you now, he will be with us.”

I didn’t go yesterday, went to Leamington v. Biggleswade Town instead. Admittedly, that was partly because I have a problem with my knees which are going to have to be replaced. But I am also completely disillusioned.

And Wyn, you have seen the good, the bad and the ugly in your time. Plus you always attempt to look at the positive side of things and have good insight, so when someone like you says they are disillusioned, then it says a lot.

Good luck with the knees. You don’t appear to be retiring anytime soon, so when will you find time for that 😉

I have now retired from my main job. I have taken on four smaller jobs, but they can largely be done from home.
