Solution or more of the same?

Unless Jose Riga can pull a rabbit out of a hat at Preston tonight I would expect him to start to come under increased scrutiny amongst Addicks. Tonight is Jose’s 7th game in charge and I am starting to wonder if he is not the solution but part of the continuation of the problem.

Riga has been appointed and left/sacked/walked *delete as applicable four times under Duchatelet. He may claim to be his own man, but the facts betray a different image.

Riga was only accepted because he was a known quantity, a decent man, and the best of a horrible bunch of sycophantic no-marks. And frankly Nebojša Vignjević walking into The Valley would have been the end for just about everyone.

In fairness, although Riga is just waking up to it, the players, collective spirit and the games in hand last time around gave Riga a much better chance of survival. Following Fraeye or following Powell is a bit like following Neville Chamberlain or Winston Churchill into war.

I have pretty much given up on team selection. The new signings are predominately defensive options and put together sound like a law firm specializing in the porn industry. Sanogo has to start, if fit, just to give us something else up front. Lookman should start too. Whoever plays we need the red shirts to give a gritty, no nonsense performance. We can’t be winning any beauty contests especially at defending set pieces.

A bit of Tuesday night muck and brass Churchillian spirit is required tonight. Nothing more, nothing less. I can’t wait.

I thought Jose was appointed partly cos e got ourn ahrt of relegation which was where ourn were eaded under Chrissy Powell at the time so thass the istory of it. I reckon ourn should do wot Cardiff are doin n shoot on site cos the more shots ourn ave, the more likely one of them is to go in n sometimes passin forward backwards n sideways aint always the best option when ourn are avin to fight for their lives.

You have to remember that it was easier last time as JR inherited a Chris Powell squad. With games in hand and without pressure to select RD’s network players CP would almost certainly have avoided relegation.
