No more words

Another manic week at work flies by, although I was a little less distracted by Charlton news this week than I was last. I’m sure most working Addicks have not been quite as productive as they should be these last few weeks.

Jose Riga has had a full week with the squad and added to it with the signing of Jorge Teixeira. I think more than a few eyebrows were raised by him signing a 4.5-year contract. He’ll be 30 in August. How is the Naby Sarr 5-year contract working out Ms Meire? I saw Rick Everitt describe Teixeira’s contract length as bonkers. I agree but I expect him to start tomorrow.

One apparent target, Yann Kermorgant, moved to Reading for £500,000, which realized a profit on what the Cherries paid us. Another head shake moment. Charlton were trying to get Yann in on loan, but it is understood that they would not meet the price of a permanent move. I’m personally okay with not seeing Yann again in a Charlton shirt, I’d rather remember him like this.

There was a brilliant article written by The Guardian’s Owen Gibson this week and actually secured some quotes from Meire, her first public comments for over 5 weeks. “Everything gets taken out of context and it’s a shame” she said of an unedited video of her whole appearance in Dublin in December.

An online petition has had over 3,500 signatures in just over 24 hours asking for Roland Duchatelet to support the sale of the club and CAFC Player matchday commentator Louis Mendez has been removed from his post as matchday joint host due to a “conflict of interest.” Louis also works for the SLP and BBC. I understand the club were not impressed with this story he wrote about Karel Fraeye. I’m going to miss Louis on the commentaries, he was good.

Rather strangely, I thought, the club put out a story this afternoon following a meeting between Katrien Meire and Greenwich & Woolwich MP Matthew Pennycook and Eltham MP Clive Efford. It was strange because the club wasted no time in the getting the story up and I love this line to close: “The club is happy to have further dialogue with the MPs going forward.”

A couple of MP’s ask for a meeting, a week later there they are cozying up with Katrien, who is happy for them to pop round for a cup of tea anytime. Customers, season ticket holders. Oh, you can whistle.

The protests will continue behind the west stand at 5pm after the game tomorrow organized by the Coalition Against Roland Duchâtelet (CARD) plus CARD is also adopting guerrilla tactics to prevent the club being able to prepare properly for its activities, and Saturday will see the first flash protest, which will be announced at noon on CARD’s social media channels and by volunteers around the ground. 750 black & white scarfs will also be given away free to fans.

Meanwhile Jacko broke the silence from the players following the diabolical performance at Hull. He said “There’s been a lot of words said recently. In truth there’s been more fighting talk than actual fight. It’s the job now to turn apologies and home truths into performances worthy of the badge.”
