Watt deal to Cardiff off

“Cardiff City have been placed under a transfer embargo by the Football League following a breach of financial fair play rules. The Bluebirds become the fourth Championship club currently under a transfer embargo, joining Bolton, Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

Tony Watt will play his last game for Cardiff tomorrow and then return to Jose Riga’s Charlton. The sale of Watt was worth £2m, which may have just financed the deals for Roger Johnson, Rhys Williams and Diego Poyet, and possibly allowed Jose Riga to enter the transfer market, or the majority of the money would have been placed in the credit column of Duchatelet’s football project account. However any plan to cash in Watt have been scuppered by Cardiff’s transfer embargo.

So what now for Watt?

He left suddenly with liar Meire saying he was injured. However the Scotsman went straight into Russell Slade’s side and has played in every league game since, scoring twice and weighing in with a couple of assists making his move popular with Cardiff fans and his transfer from us sadly a formality. But now he is back.

Cardiff, who have already loaned out Kenwyne Jones, could appeal and get the embargo lifted and Watt could still go, or now Meire will attempt to flog him to someone else. Or there has to be the possibility that he may stay under Riga.

Watt made it very clear that he was no fan of Fraeye, and there was a lot of talk that Watt was a bad influence in the dressing room, but that wasn’t obvious from his own comments and other players on social media. Stephen Henderson said at the time: “He’s a good lad and has got loads of ability. I’ve heard a few rumours but it is all BS. He has not signed permanently and I hope he goes there, gets his confidence up and comes back a new player.”

We could certainly do with a fired up and on form Tony Watt in our dressing room.
