Luzon deserves better

A huge week for Guy Luzon as the vultures arrive in SE7 ready for their next meal. Tomorrow night 8 games without a win Charlton host 8 games without a win Preston at what could be an angry Valley.

I think in most cases the anger is not against Luzon, who joined in very difficult circumstances but slowly won the Valley faithful over by doing his work on the field, and in public providing honest assessments of his team and their performances.

Luzon needs to be backed by the owner and his CEO, who suggested that the Israeli could emulate Sir Alex Ferguson on his arrival. You have to laugh, Fergie was the poster child for stability, the opposite of what we have seen under the Belgians.

I would suggest that less than one win from the next two home games could see us bottom by the end of next weekend with promotion chasing Middlesbrough away to follow. It ain’t pretty but the lack of sensible investment in the squad, and when I say sensible I mean why spend £1.4m on Naby Sarr and give him a 5-year contract, when everybody could see that Championship experience was much more of a necessity, is draining the blood out of Luzon’s latest career with Roland Duchatelet.

Luzon said when he was appointed that he loves the pressure and that Duchatelet appreciated his knowledge and quality. That may well be true but Luzon has been given an almost impossible task and, just like Peeters before him, has retrenched from an ambitious game-plan into attempting to defend deep and scrap for a draw. That is what happens when you are given no options to change things other than kids. Mind you Fergie would have made a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, with kids and all.

I am sorry Ms Meire, Luzon is not Fergie, but he is not a magician either.

Very true. The phrase there is always someone worse of than you, has never been truer.

I totally agree that a very competent Luzon finds himself in an untenable situation with little help seemingly on the horizon. However, if we could get Makienok, Kashi and Vetokele out of the inifirmary, see Henderson start and have both Moussa and Jackson at full speed, I think you have a very different football team on the pitch. Hopefully, that scenario becomes a fact sooner than later.

Diarra said it was close, but Reading 20 shots Charlton 2 unfortunately isn’t anywhere near that. 2 chances created????? Cheap tickets but Duchatelet and Co need to understand is not what punters expect to see. There are pluses but this is the second season a small has created major problems.
Don’t expect miracles but do hope for some competitiveness at least.

Yeah but I wonder ow Curbs would’ve andled it, buildin from the back or solid defence n shut ahrts. Wass been disappointin is the strikers aint been up to task so far. Watt as lost a bit of is swagger n who else is there as Vetokele is always injured dahn our gaff. Them two were sposed to be the star strike force this season.
