Bikey out, anyone biking in?

Three out and no new arrivals as we enter the last day of the August transfer window. Andre Bikey had his contract cancelled yesterday, why both parties waited that long to divorce I don’t know, but it allows Bikey free agency and the chance to find another club.

Bikey had been frozen out by Guy Luzon and was playing in the stiffs, if the reserve team made up of youngsters can be called that these days. A year ago he was an intricate part of Bob Peeters unbeaten start to the season, but Luzon didn’t like how the experienced Cameroonian negatively dominated the dressing room. Add to that a couple of defensive howlers and a drop in professionalism and Luzon pulled rank.

Loic Nego was a Chris Powell signing (phraarp) and has bounced around the network like a bad euro. The 24-year old signed for Hungarian side Videoton for what was not even described as an undisclosed fee.

Also early this morning 5th choice centre-half Terell Thomas was loaned to Woking for a month and he made his debut in the victory over Welling today.

Luzon will know what to expect from Roland Duchatelet, but he will be very frustrated if he is unable to add to his paper thin squad, already carrying injuries, that has started the season so promisingly. I have been impressed with who has been signed since the summer, and in some cases more than impressed, but we can’t keep recycling the squad and supplementing it with young players and expect it not to break. Lessons have to be learnt and there never seems to be a vision.

Ever since we let Laurie Wilson go to Rotherham on loan and realized that holding onto Joe Gomez was no more than a forlorn hope, we have all known we needed cover at right back. I would had said it was pretty obvious to anyone that Solly, Watt, Vetokele and Henderson would not go through the season injury free. One would suspect Makienok, the way he plays, will also get his fair share of knocks.

This isn’t about filling the squad with wasters, it is about keeping the players competitive and the team ready, resolute and enterprising in each game we play for the next 8 months. It’s Luzon’s mantra.

Let us hope for some encouraging news tomorrow.

  1. I can’t remember if we can still do ’emergency’ loans after today or not. I guess that defines how important today is really.

So, no new players in, but we didn’t lose anyone good either. All in all, with only Gomez being missed, and new contracts for Cousins and JBG, this all seems like decent business to me.

    • If we can add a couple of worthy loans to compliment the first team squad then I will be happier Martin. Agree today was chaos so was nice to do our business early and bed in players plus keeping JC and JBG was huge.

Don’t expect us to carry a Derby like squad but some good options to cover injuries and out of form players is still required imo other than just 17-year olds.
