Nottingham Forest 0 Charlton Athletic 0

Belize internet is not being kind to me here, and it was my ever thoughtful Mum’s text last night that told me of yesterday’s result. 5 points from those first three games I would have happily taken when the fixtures came out, but what the reports I have belatedly read tell me is that we are maybe only a fit and Championship-ready Igor or another striker away from a play-off push.

15-18 goal strikers cost more money than Roly is prepared to pay, and fair enough when you see what Bristol City have offered for Andre Gray.

Watt by all accounts last night was quiet, struggling I would have thought from four games in ten days. Makienok was a handful but should have won us the game. The difference between mid-table and promotion.

A good result though and a sign that my expectations have moved up a rung when after reading the reports I am disappointed to only take a point.

Forest fans, who now risk losing Michail Antonio, by comparison were happy with their lot.

Good teams have great defences and it looked as if the back five had another barnstormer and we should take great encouragement from that as we approach another two tough tests.

I am going to end with a thought that I can’t get out of my head. Is this not like last season? Yes we have better individual players and a more astute manager but I worry that the squad is again very threadbare with few options and no options for some positions. Solly for example took a huge whack during the game, but got up and soldiered on, so a plea from the Belize jungle to Roly.

Be happy with the first two weeks, but don’t be content. Luzon and the players’ good start needs supporting and backing with some ambition. Not Andre Gray ambition, but sensible ambition that we can all appreciate.

Elsewhere in The Championship: A lot of draws over two nights. Ipswich went top after beating Burnley 2-0, Hull are 2nd after beating Fulham and MK Dons are 4th after beating Bolton. Tonight QPR won away at Wolves after coming from 0-2 to win 3-2.

Firstly I enjoy your posts. Your points on the depth of the squad are noted and in part ring true. But I feel other than a few clubs in the division the same can be said for most. Yes I feel one or two more signings would be welcome, cover for right back, goalkeeper and striker. But lets look at the positives on the quality of the signings made so far. Makienok is a feel still finding his way at this level and is in a way trying to hard and it looking like a donkey on his back not yet being on the score sheet. But one or two hit the back on the net and am sure we will see a more confident player. Patrick Baruer a revelation and along side Diara looks a good partnership, then there Sarr to come on. The 1million investment on pitch and ground improvements must not be forgotten.
It must be very difficult these days with players wages demands let alone the agents input to all of this – not an easy situation.
Plus, the clutch of players that have migrated from the Academy it a good and true testament to the quality of our Academy set up.
Rather have our method of 0ur operation as apposed to others such as Wigan and say QPR for all there money both not getting a return on their investment.
I am absolutely positive the board and management of the club, that looks be have now settled in, understand fully fans concerns on the issue raised.
I am more than a little confident that these are looking to be earnestly addressed as soon as possible – but with the right player, right attitude and at the right price.
I go further, in that if by the end of the year we are there or there about in the top six in the league further investment will looked to be made in the January transfer window. Then there is the up and coming transfer window.
Next two matches Hull at Home and Wolves away before the international break will be interesting and then after the first five matches a very good yardstick of where we currently are.
Have and keep the faith, I have it this year.
    Regards
    Peter

    • Thanks for your comment Peter and there are far more positives this time around. However I think a lot of clubs have more depth than we do and with the current batch of injuries after not yet two weeks I hope that you are right in your assumption that Roland will address this as soon as possible.
