Derby County 1 Charlton Athletic 1

Excellent point at one of the promotion favourites today. Don’t know much about the game as we were having a late breakfast in Miami but I was constantly drawn to what seemed an exciting game on Twitter and it looked as if we deserved our point with a wholehearted defensive performance punctuated by some good play on the break.
Cristian Ceballos started on the left of midfield, to some surprise, and was responsible for possibly the worst corner in Charlton’s history, which has to be seen to be believed. I have hopes for the young Spaniard though, but him out left did allow Cousins to move inside alongside Kashi.
Derby have real strength in depth, which will be needed for an automatic promotion push. Darren Bent was an unused substitute today, and the Rams play with a lot of width and George Thorne is an excellent midfielder, but our back four coped well with travelling Addicks having a lot of praise especially for Bauer and Diarra.
Tony Watt was the man of the moment with his 3rd goal of the season, albeit deflected, and it was fantastic to see skipper Johnnie Jackson be called upon for some late backs-to-the-wall leadership as we clung on for that point. Jacko becomes the first Addick since Matt Holland to play 200 games in Charlton colours.
Our first point at Derby since 2001 and some good momentum being built for Luzon and his players.

Elsewhere in The Championship: Brighton are the early pacemakers after beating Fulham at the Cottage 2-1, while Bristol City and Rotherham lost again. The Yorkshiremen at Forest 2-1 and City at home to Brentford 4-2. That’s 7 goals in a few days that Ben Hamer has conceded. Kike scored twice as Middlesbrough beat Bolton 3-0, Ipswich came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday and in the early game Burnley and Birmingham shared 4 goals.
