Christmas is coming

At least it is in the Chicago Addick household. Today we emptied umpteen boxes of Christmas decorations and started the long but merry process of putting them all up.
The music is on, my daughter has had a Rudolph flashing nose stuck to her face all day and the smell of mince pies is coming from the kitchen, and yes I know it’s only November!
Christmas in Bermuda is peculiar, although they make a good fist of it. We drove past the 35 ft Christmas tree outside the City Hall yesterday, which will be lit on Friday. A week tomorrow is the Hamilton Christmas parade, but the most festive event of all is the Christmas Walkabout in St George’s..
Although far more culturally American these days, Bermuda was late to adopt Thanksgiving, but it is now celebrated in pockets although a lot of the shops open early on Friday morning for the crazy sales of Black Friday.
For the first time in 5 years we are going to spend this Christmas on the island, which I am looking forward too, the ease of it, more than anything else and it will be nice for us to be at home to enjoy our house full of twinkly lights and decorations. Plus I can wear shorts as well and go to the beach, a Bermuda tradition on Christmas morning.
Blimey CA that is very early! I reckon your daughter must be very persuasive!
if only George had been our early Santa..

She is PA, in fact it seems like only the other day we took them all bloody down – it wasn’t by the way 🙂
