AFC Bournemouth 1 Charlton Athletic 0

I left Bermuda on Thursday night due to there being a hurricane blowing a little too powerful for comfort, but even if I was avoiding a hurricane I was still hoping for a little more than a puff of air from my Addicks in Dorset yesterday.

There should be no sugarcoating this performance – it was poor, rubbish in fact.

The Addicks were obviously going to lose their unbeaten record at some time, but to lose it without so much of a whimper was very disappointing. From the off to the last minute our ball retention was poor, we lacked invention, never looked like scoring and were bereft of any pace, sinew or coherence.

In fact there was little endearing about the display at all, Karlan Ahearne-Grant’s blind endeavour, Andre Bikey’s backbone and Stephen Henderson keeping the score down the only scraps to cling onto.

The goal originated from a misplaced pass, and it was to be the story of our afternoon. Our passing was appalling, as if John Beck’s Cambridge United had suddenly on the morning of a game decided to play like Barcelona. Yes, and the kit did us no favours!

Mind you, nor did the ref. He may as well have worn an orange shirt because he was so bad.

We were overrun in midfield with Jackson rightly taken off at half-time before he was sent off, but at least he was visible unlike Buyens, who is a shadow of the influence he was in the early week’s of the season. Harriott blew another opportunity, Moussa looks out of his depth and continuing to tinker with Cousins is clearly having a negative affect.

If Roland Duchâtelet is insisting that Peeters has been dealt his hand until January he may like to look at the video re-run of the last 15 minutes when the barely 17 Ahearne Grant, Bikey and Laure Wilson played as our front line. It was almost funny. Almost.

This may sound harsh, but the noisy travelling Addicks deserved better and I was not the only one who couldn’t bring himself to clap them when they came over at the end. A hurricane, an expensive flight ticket, jet lag and a hangover does not even come onto it.

Peeters has the perfect week to get a response, but the need for more bodies is even more apparent this morning, especially if Gudmundsson and more significantly Vetokele are to be unavailable for a while.

Around the League: Forest also lost their unbeaten record at Cardiff and Norwich lost to Fulham, where Kit Symons still awaits a contract. Wolves after being 3-0 up at The Den were pegged back to 3-3, Ipswich were held by Blackburn and Middlesbrough won at Brighton. Derby and Watford, under their umpteenth new manager both won comfortably at Reading and Wednesday respectively and occupy the top two places.
