A look at Blackburn’s team sheet told us everything we needed to know about the chasm in quality between us and many teams in this division. Yeovil and Barnsley have finally succumbed, the grim reaper is looking for one more candidate and we move onto another home game to finally, hopefully, put this wretched season to bed.
Blackburn Rovers have under-achieved this season as have many others with rich resources. Leicester and Burnley have run away with the league winning 56 games between them, whilst others have bumbled around trying to get into the play-off’s or spent the season frantically peering over their shoulders.
The Championship has replaced the Premiership this season with its predictability. The wage and transfer dealings table I feel would look very much like the league table, excepting Burnley and that gap is only going to widen as club owners chase the dream, financial fair play or not.
Duchâtelet has put great importance on FFP, but that road is long and although one could argue if the Nottingham Forest model, for example, is any better, the Addicks need more than emphasis on the youth academy and a reliance of FFP to survive and flourish. We have to hope that is the plan.
In saying all that it was a much tougher division last season, Peterborough went down with 54 points, and in all likelihood it will be harder again next. The Championship’s endearing quality though is that it nearly always throws up a Burnley, or a Hull, or whisper it, a Palace.
Offering hope that good coaching, togetherness, leadership and organization can still get you a long way and a shot at ‘the pot of gold.’
That togetherness was there again yesterday but so was the difference in quality and it sounded to me that just as we got ourselves into a good position, we were undone by better players or our own mistakes. Two steps forward and two back, the story of our season.

Good assessment of the season which I have to say has been a big dissapointment.
With the new owners I did expect more, and although ‘more’ is promised tommorow in the club infastructure and academy it has not been an easy season for me, with only the QPR and Leicester games to stand out. Poyet has been one of the few bright spots in what too me has been a dim and grey season. There needs to be a considerable amount of work to be done both ‘on’ and ‘off’ the pitch, not PR talk of ‘jam tommorow’
