Charlton Athletic 0 Bolton Wanderers 0

“I think this point will be very important.”

One point in six and we actually climb a place, which only goes to underline how just a point would have been so valuable on Tuesday night.

Morrison returned to help form a much more solid back four with Morgan Fox impressing those in attendance in his full league debut. Solly was rested and is expected to return on Monday.

Most of the talk after the game was off a dubious penalty decision that went against us. Bolton keeper Bogdan was adjudged not to have kicked out at Simon Church. Otherwise we continued to show our paucity in front of goal.

The clean sheet was most welcome though ably assisted by a acrobatic Poyet header of the line.

Bolton sounded as if they were there for the taking, but did come to The Valley on the back of a good run of form. Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday, one time relegation rivals, have both stealthy moved away from the bottom and it is the familiar road to Sheffield we take on Monday.

When Riga took off Church for Hughes it looked to me as if he was happy with just the point. In a few weeks we will know if that point was good enough.

Squeaky Bum time, that point might just be enough come the end of season particularly with both Blackpool and Donny getting bet yesterday evening. Here’s hoping Boro sort Millwall out today, it’s going down to the wire, last game nerves and nail biting of excruciating measures. Surely next season (assuming we survive) can only be better, our lack of goals are a footballing embarrassment.

This season has been horrible, in so many ways. I’ll wait another few weeks before I compare it with 79/80 and 08/09 but it will be close.
