I was pretty removed from today, sadly in the camp of league being more important Cup, mostly because the club have failed us so horribly in cup competition for so long.

I was pleased to see that CP put out a strong side, but with Solly and Stephens missing, Sordell injured and Stewart gone, it only underscored our threadbare squad. Both Liege players were not signed in time for the original game and were on the sidelines. I am sure they were impressed.

No word on whether Roland Duchâtelet was there although Hungry Ted reported that Katrien Meire was. Probably someone worth impressing, she would have witnessed an abysmal 1st half performance from the players, 8 or 9 or so, that are playing for new contracts.

Who knows what was going through Chris Powell’s mind perched on an advertising hoarding in one photograph during that 45 minutes, but he gave the players a piece of it at half time and at least we showed some spirit and sent the faithful 5,000 home with something to show for their loyalty.

I guess we should be pleased after snatching a replay from the arms of a back page headline. Another game then, which will be next Tuesday night as we embark on a run of away trips.

At least this gives the pitch a break, which looked shocking, but by all accounts played pretty true. The Evening Standard was reporting that we have called in some pitch experts to help us with it. The renovation could cost up to £600,000. I hope that was in Roly’s due diligence.
