‘Charlton red’

And, it’s a football shirt…. has a henly neckline (oh, that’s got you hasn’t it?), is polyester, probably far too tight on the non-athlete, will be hidden under a coat for most of the season and will cost around £50 a pop, but most importantly of all, it’s the right colour!

Last season’s kit was hurried out and Just Sports gave us a catalogue kit in red, this time around we had the whole Nike line to choose from (let’s face it, we’re not big enough for them to design us a bespoke range) but thankfully because to me it is the most important thing, they have got red shade from the palette right!

City fan Michael Slater may be a little disappointed in the copy of last season’s Man United away kit, but it’s perfectly fine and more importantly I suspect there’ll be a line of lads, parents and kids wanting to wear it.

My only gripe is that it’s becoming evident that the club are now in a cycle of changing the kit (shirts, shorts and socks) every season, which is pretty thoughtless in the current financial environment.

The away kit usually comes a couple of week’s after. There were no clues today but I have heard that we are returning to yellow for the first time in a number of years.

Lastly a thank you from me to the Andrew Sykes Group for their continued support of the club. A local successful company for a local community club. Sounds about right to me.

In other news we got the first whiff of the new season earlier today when the 1st Round of the Capital One Cup was drawn, and we will host Oxford United. The U’s are managed by Chris Wilder, who appeared in Charlton’s colours on loan from Sheffield United in the early 1990’s.

CA, full kudos to the Andrews Sykes Group for their support and commitment, but it would be much more professional and prestigious to have THAT name exclusively on the shirts rather than the two product descriptions as well, which looks somewhat less than impressive.

Henly neck line? Henly neck line you say…? Well thanks for the education in fashion vocabulary, but to me that’s a baseball shirt neck line and therefore has no place on a footie shirt.

The cut of the new Charlton shirt neckline is somewhat like the standard “Henley” style, but lacks the usual four or five buttons, as per the original sculling shirts….thus the Henley name. Modern baseball uniforms tend to be a full front button-up over a crewneck long or short-sleeve tee shirt or a heavier duty single tee-style jersey with either a crew or “v” neck, so I would not call the Charlton shirt a “baseball” shirt.
