A few beers with Richard Murray
That is what I had last Thursday evening here in Bermuda. Arranged by a fellow Addick on the island the two of us had a most enjoyable couple of hours in Richard and his son’s company talking Charlton and football in general.
Those of you that have met Richard personally before will know he is very candid and honest. I’m not going to betray any confidentialities, not that there was anything earth shattering because there really wasn’t and those that were at the Bromley Addicks a week or so back would also have heard Richard being very supportive of the owners Michael Slater and Tony Jiminez and less so of others.
Nonetheless he and his son were great company sharing memories with us from different sides of the aisle, agreeing that some points this past season were a little nervy but wholeheartedly agreeing that Chris Powell has done a terrific job, particularly as he is still very much learning.
Richard has been a frequent visitor to Bermuda as his sister-in-law lives here. Richard tragically lost his wife you will remember but clearly is very close to her family and he was here with both of his children, his son-in-law and the new apple in his eye, his granddaughter.
He was looking really well and it was a lovely evening that reminded me how unique he was/is as a football club owner.

I’d love to know whether he reads your blog.
SLC – He reads all the blogs and is a frequent Charlton Life visitor.
Nice of the old chap to go all that way to buy you a beer, CA 😉
He bought us a few actually. Very generous.
Don’t know if any of the Charlton board get to Thailand but I’d happily buy them a beer or two.
Any UK trips planned, CA? I’ll be over in August.
Hello mate. I will be there I expect in July and at the end of August – whatever the game is on Aug 31st my son and I should be there.
