Nice Beaver

Our last day in the snowy utopia of Beaver Creek. It has been a skiers paradise here with a daily dosing of fresh fluffy snow giving away at daybreak to alpine blue skies.

The company that invited us here have done a super job of looking after us, and we hope that this was not a one-off. There were some late nights and some very early mornings and the altitude, which can be as high as 11,000 feet, has caused most of us problems, but although as a consequence of my knee operation, I’m not much of a daredevil these days, actually who am I kidding, I never was, this part of the country is stunningly beautiful and distinctly different to the Alps.

Colorado’s resorts have done their very best to steal everything that is great about skiing in Europe but has added pampering, first rate customer service and immaculate grooming of the slopes on much higher mountain ranges with world class family resorts nestled at the bottom of them.

My daughter will be talking about her skiing exploits in ski school for some time and we might find it difficult to get her helmet off her, but tomorrow we fly back to Miami where we’ll spend two nights in the nearby barrier island town of Bal Harbour before heading back to Bermuda. A week later I will be back in Miami for the 3rd weekend on the trot.
