Will we, won’t we?
With Thursday’s transfer deadline fast approaching any additions to the squad look unlikely. Chris Powell has been increasingly vague and in the post match press conference on Saturday said “That’s a great question…If we do, great, If we don’t, we just get on with it” suggesting he has not been given any funds to make any moves, even for Rob Hulse, who now seems destined for Millwall.
I would think unless Powell or Jimenez can manipulate a swap deal to include Green and/or BWP no new faces will be coming in despite the managers wish for us to sign Anthony Wordsworth and Alan Judge.
A similar situation then to the summer but to understand why no funds are available I’d implore you to read, if you haven’t done so already, New York Addick’s superb overview and mini-analysis of CAFC’s most recent set of accounts.
Clearly being in a higher division is not altering the club’s debt status much and the key is to how friendly the majority of that debt is. Explaining why maybe when Kevin Cash altered, changed or pulled his investment last year, there was an immediate cash call and I know that has not been proven and some don’t believe it, but I think those accounts only add to the conjecture.
Reading through NYA’s post I am also reminded of how bloody galling it is that we only received £1.7 million for Jonjo Shelvey when you compare that to how Liverpool threw money away during the same period.
One transfer snippet is that of young Spanish midfielder Ruben Bover Izquierdo, who is out of contract in July. Bover showed great promise early on but regular watchers of the U21’s have said he has not improved and Powell seems to think likewise as the 20-year old is currently training with the New York Red Bulls. Lloyd Sam is currently with the Red Bulls.
