Up the Creek

We flew to Miami this morning and have had a stop-over day in nearby Coral Gables before we set off for a week’s skiing in Colorado tomorrow morning.

We are staying in Beaver Creek, near Vail, our 3rd time at the same hotel. We had decided that a skiing holiday wasn’t going to happen this year for one way or another so a corporate invite a couple of months ago was a very welcome surprise, especially to a hotel we love and a village that has a welcome sign up exclaiming: “Not exactly roughing it!”

I am “working” Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but despite 6.45am starts the work days have huge holes in them between morning and evening for what are described as “social activities!”

The invite covered significant others so I brought mine and our daughter, who will take her first ski lesson and although it will be bloody cold – we are normally fair-weather skiers – we are looking forward to the break, although if I’m honest timing work wise (proper work wise) is not the best.

As is commonplace we’ve had a nice day in Coral Gables. I like it here, it’s accessibility to Miami airport, It’s fusion of grandiose Spanish hacienda’s and eye-catching Latino’s and definitely the Hillstone restaurant where we had another great meal.

Then on the way back to the hotel we stopped at the outdoor plaza of the Bierhaus, which had live music, buxom waitresses dressed as Germans and Warsteiner on draft. It was according to the sign the 15th Annual Blues Fest, and I also discovered that my 3-year old loves Blues music and is quite a flirt!

To bed now, ready for an early morning call. I’ll be on the flight out west tomorrow during the game at The Valley, so give them a shout for me if you are going. I hope I can get a signal quickly once I land at Eagle Airport 6,547ft in the air.
