2012 Top 5 Favourite Hotels
Next up on the Chicago Addick Top 5 agenda are hotels. When I am old I’d like someone to just move me into one of the five I have listed below. I stayed in 25 hotels in 2012, some for pleasure, some because of necessity. Five stood out from all of the rest and here are my 5 Favourite Hotels:
1. Four Seasons, Papagayo, Costa Rica
Sat on it’s own in a narrow peninsula on the pacific coast of Costa Rica. Architecturally stunning with buildings featuring flowing roof designs (photo) and other touches imitating the forms of turtles, armadillos, and butterflies. A hotel paradise with Howler monkeys, sloths, toucans and giant iguanas for company.
2. Ritz Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, Colorado
Oozing with style and comfort, this mountain side hotel is an all-year round Christmas grotto where even a labrador can be loaned for the day.
3. Breakers, Palm Beach, Florida
A jewel of a resort, and a big one at that occupying a big chunk of the Palm Beach coast. The Breakers is loaded with amenities and gloriously mixes old world with new.
4. Coworth Park, Ascot
A country outpost since the late 18th century has been turned into a magnificent innovative hotel and spa. Deliciously decorated with an equestrian theme. Polo fields and stables are hidden amongst the meadows, thick woods and lime tree groves. A real country retreat.
5. The James, Chicago
Just north of The Loop in an area previously bereft of quality hotels, The James is a stylish hideaway with warmly-lit loft-style rooms and includes a cool bar and restaurant.
Notable mention: The St Regis, Buckhead, Georgia.
