Sheffield Wednesday 2 Charlton Athletic 0

A disheartening defeat yesterday if truth be told. I know little about the game after being stuck on the M25 for hours on our way to the Oxfordshire countryside but as Dave said and I alluded to yesterday, the defeat puts down a marker for the season, and consolidation would be a success in my book.

Powell was again late with the changes, although he had to make them from the stands after getting sent off at the break for daring to question a decision or two. Dave Jones has accepted that we should have had a penalty and Haynes also had a goal cancelled out for offside. So perhaps not all bad.

What two away defeats on the spin gives us is an opportunity to address our home form and the way in which we need to positively attack games starting the day after Christmas.

Powell-ometer: I’m a big fan of Cort so glad to see him back but another game where the gaffer’s substitutions came too late, by that time though he had been dismissed to the stands.
Elsewhere: A smash and grab won for Cardiff at Leicester put the Welsh side 3 points clear of Hull, who won at won at Derby Friday. Palace were held at home by Huddersfield, Boro lost at Leeds and Watford beat Forest to move 6th. Barnsley had the result of the day winning at The Den, mind you Peterborough had a stonking 5-4 win over Bolton at London Road. Ipswich drew with Bristol City and Birmingham grabbed a late point at home to Burnley.
