Millwall 0 Charlton Athletic 0
Sounds as if little old Charlton took the piss a little today and the locals weren’t impressed. Not to all Charlton’s fans enjoyment it seems, but I go back quite a long way and have had my fair share of moments stood or sat in both of those khazi’s not knowing if you are going to make it back to the car in one piece or not. As long as no one got hurt, I’ve actually quite revelled in reading and talking to a couple of mates who said we lorded it down there today.
8,000 people more than Millwall’s average came to watch, their biggest home crowd in almost 18 years, for a game that doesn’t mean much to them by all accounts and it was a super draw against a very decent side on a tremendous run.
Again there were enforced changes but the back five didn’t buckle and Powell deservedly got the point he clearly set out to achieve.
I’ll leave the final words to Johnnie Jackson: “Hope everyone gets home safe from the Pisshole, got a bit lively at the end!!…blinding support today, shame we couldn’t nick a winner #cafc”
Addick Bloggers at The New Den:
Powell-ometer: Powelly set his team up for the draw and left with it. Big credit for giving the players the belief to not crumble, like so many Charlton teams have there in the past.
Elsewhere: There were 4-1’s everywhere today. At Leicester who beat Derby, at Peterborough, beaten by Blackpool, at Ashton Gate as Bristol City were stuffed by Wolves for their first win in 10 and at Watford as the Hornets thrashed Barnsley to move 6th. Leeds beat Huddersfield away 4-2 in the Yorkshire derby, Ipswich won at Bolton as Dougie Freedman suffered his first defeat as Bolton manager, Hull won at Forest and in the 50-miles apart derby Palace humbled Brighton 3-0.

I just hope that those who openly ‘lorded it’ are prepared to stand up when Millwall come to the Valley in March. We’ve been dragged down to thier level and thats a real shame. May seems a good idea now but the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down and Millwall will not need a second invitation to right a few wrongs. Theyre already saying as much. The return fixture will be very messy. I fear those who just want to enjoy a game of football will end up the ones getting hurt and thats the problem I have with this.
Ronnie.
Like many I grew up alongside Millwall fans and still some are mates, but although it was less-dangerous to be considered anoraks and quiet little nobodies, they have taken the piss out of us home and away for generations (on and off the pitch frankly).
Whilst the flare amused me, those responsible for throwing chairs and “calling it on” will need to be counted and they won’t like what they will see – you are right Ronnie.
However the 99.9% of others at The Den on Saturday taking the piss and backing the team has been 35-years in coming.
The club will be aware of this, and will surely be expecting a backlash.
Not that this has ever stopped them before. I feel sorry for the Jimmy Seed stand 🙁 It’s going to lose a few seats that’s for sure.
Are you sure about the ‘red division’ being harmless CA?
Well they’re a bunch of kids whose sole aim is to improve the atmosphere. I hope they were not responsible, but if they are then we don’t need them and true Charlton fans will weed them out I am sure.
