Charm City
Despite being stranded in the Atlantic Ocean little ol’ Bermuda is pretty easy to get in and out off. There is a daily Gatwick flight, three flights in and out of New York, two to Boston and each day Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami and Toronto are all 90 to 120 minutes away. Plus there are seasonally a handful of other flights to North American east coast cities such as DC, Charlotte and even Nova Scotia.
The most recent daily service to Bermuda is airTran’s to Baltimore, which I am getting this afternoon just to go to a dinner. Then tomorrow morning after waking up I will re-pack my pyjamas and then fly back to Bermuda arriving here around 2pm. Simples.
I have never been to Baltimore, home of the TV show The Wire. The city’s history has been defined by it’s port and that is where I’ll be spending my 12 hours in the ‘Charm City’ sleeping and eating in the Inner Harbor, one of America’s oldest and historically most important seaports.

CA, my wife and I just spent four days in Baltimore, attending baseball games at beautiful Camden Yards, sightseeing, dining and the rest. I first visited Baltimore in the mid-sixties and it was not a pretty spot! Since then, the rejuvenation of its Harbour area has been nothing short of miraculous, as you will see. For a short stay I would highly recommend the 1 1/2 hour “trolley” tour, which departs from the Visitor’s Centre at the Inner Harbour. “Bob” the guide was extremely knowledgeable and provides a very thorough overview of the city and its history. We topped that off with an immediate 45 minute harbour cruise in order to view the city from both the land and the water. While there is a fair amount of tourist commercialism, if you want a nice pint of Guinness and decent food, try Tir Na Nog Bar & Grill right at the Inner Harbour. Fell’s Point has lots of decent little places to eat and can be reached by water taxi. Enjoy.
Thanks Bob. No time for that unfortunately but I have been impressed with the Inner Harbour and what little I have seen of the town. The Orioles winning last night kept the orange lights shining bright.
The trollies or open top bus tour would always be my go-to whirlwind tour of any city but sadly it will have to be next time.
