Stephen Kavanagh gone

Rumours emanating from Charlton Life are saying that long time director and current chief executive Stephen Kavanagh has left the club. I true Kavanagh joins Peter Varney and Alex Newell in leaving the club in the past month. That leaves only majority owner Tony Jimenez, front man Michael Slater and Richard Murray as directors.

The well known non-Charlton local the South London Press are reporting that they will have a further statement from Michael Slater tomorrow. When the SLP became a mouthpiece for the club I never knew.

Kavanagh wasn’t an owner but a trusted employee as far I knew. Slater and Jimenez’s “planned boardroom reshuffle” must be very unsettling for Chris Powell and his staff at this crucial stage of pre-season.

Update: Now official

Chief Executive runs the day to day business of the firm, often but not always a director. Directors are appointed and resign board positions for all sorts of reasons, many just procedural. Speculation is pointless and unhelpful. The only individuals who will ever know were in the boardroom, which is just as it should be. If we learn any facts at any stage then fine but until then we turn up to games just as before cos frankly as fans/spectators/ticket buyers it’s none of our business.
