First signings

Noah’s Ark or Sparrows Lane at least is back in business as two new signings joined the fray yesterday.

Ex-academy youngster Lawrie Wilson (who was the last Lawrie we had? Madden? Abrahams?) joined on the famous undisclosed fee, reported to be £500,000. Striker Jordan Cook joins from Sunderland I would think as more of ‘one for the future.’

Yesterday’s news would have put a smile back on peoples faces not necessarily because of the Wilson or Cook, but the fact that Powell was able to secure his first summer signings. Let’s hope there are a few others in the works.

Wilson impressed at Stevenage and can also play further forward from his usual right back position. Powell mentioned that right back was about the only position that wasn’t covered by a natural replacement last season, but I would be interested to see if Solly and Wilson can build a rapport similar to Solly and Waggy did at times last season. More importantly I hope Solly stays.

I thought Wilson was terrific in both games against us last season. However I think Stevenage would struggle to demand £500k for any player, so to the extent that might be the maximum we could pay under various scenarios, I suspect the initial payment was less than half that. However to Stevenage, even £200k is equivalent to the matchday revenue from approx 7-8 home games.

NYA – was he at right back when you saw him last season?

Right back in the away game and a free role in the home game – he has bags of energy though probably quite limited ability wise.
