Preston North End 2 Charlton Athletic 2

Don’t know why I was so disappointed. It was pretty obvious that Graham Alexander was going to have his Roy Race moment but hey it was a decent point on the road for our reserves.

It didn’t matter of course but I think Powell surprised a lot of us with his team selection but it was a chance for players such as Evina and Sullivan to have their patience rewarded and allowed Powell to watch some of his squad players again before he makes some post season decisions.

The 1,600 Addicks, most it seemed in fancy dress, were given a first 45 minutes to saviour as Haynes and N’Guessan’s pace caused the Lillywhites problems. A Haynes second just before the half would have ended the contest, however after the break our reserve XI got a little found out and PNE were the more hungrier.

I suspect Graham Westley fired off another volley of accusations at half-time and this time his players responded and gained a deserved draw when the 40-year old Scotsman making his 1,023rd and final appearance stepped up and curled in a free-kick. Deepdale then went crazy. Oh well let them have their moment, we have had plenty to treasure this season.

Reading reports of returning Addicks from the North West they all had a whale of a time and we do it all over again next weekend. Six more sleeps.

Powell-ometer: 8 changes but I suspect we will see the regulars return next week.
Elsewhere: The Blades fell over at Bramall Lane against Stevenage. They did recover from 0-2 to draw but with no Ched Evans they have handed the initiative now to their rivals who now have it in their own hands after winning big at Brentford. Big Mig scoring again! Stevenage meanwhile are now in the pole position for 6th. Two very late goals gave Notts County a 4-3 win at Wycombe, who were sadly relegated. Chesterfield and Exeter joined them after to losing to Yeovil and Carlisle respectively. Carlisle are still in with a shout of the play-offs but will be kicking themselves after winning their first game in six. The O’s stay up despite losing at Hartlepool and gaining just one point from the last 21.
