After listening to the first half commentary I had to shoot off at half-time for a Valentines evening (consisting mostly of chocolate) with my two girls and had forgotten to take my phone to work, so I was oblivious to the goings on 2nd half. Obviously I was chuffed to bits that we won but I knew the score was always going to be more likely 2-1 than 4-0.

As I always do I deferred to Dave’s Drinking During the Game match report, and he was bitterly disappointed that we didn’t come out 2nd half and put on a show and I agree there are still many ‘half-convereted’ at home games who need to be persuaded to come back regularly and part with dough they could better use on other leisure activities.

Mind you the table doesn’t lie and it looks pretty good from where I’m sat but I have to agree if we can’t be a bit more expansive with a two-goal lead and against 10 men, then when can we at home? Conversely we have recently gathered 9 points from beating three of the teams immediately in our tail wind.

Some of the comments from the Sheffield-ites that we are ‘just hard to beat’ and not much else stuck in the throat after we dispatched both of them in consecutive weeks, and although it’s a tag I like it would be nice to provide our fans with a little more flair like Norwich, Brighton and Southampton have done in recent seasons on their way to the Championship.

With the run of games we have, perhaps it is time for a change. Does BWP need dropping? Or does he need Hayes back as his partner. I think we could certainly do with Haynes and maybe Waggy’s pace back in the side. Green seems to be floundering a bit on the right. Hughes back with Hollands? Powell knows best but we need to improve no doubt.

Powell-ometer: Did he really instruct the team to go out 2nd half and just see the game out? Nonetheless it was another frank opinion after the game from the gaffer. With the games coming thick and fast, maybe it’s time for a couple of team changes.
Elsewhere: Sheffield United were to be Huddersfield’s last opponents with Lee Clarke in charge as they lost for just the 3rd time this season to a Neil Collins goal in what was a very close and entertaining game. The locals will becoming a little restless at Hillsborough as Wednesday lost to real promotion hopefuls Stevenage. Bournemouth surprisingly lost at home to Leyton Orient with Lisbie on the scoresheet. Carlisle drew at home to Tranmere, Lee Hughes scored twice as County beat Exeter 2-1, Colchester defeated Brentford by the same scoreline, Scunthorpe beat Rochdale, who are now bottom and Preston won for the first time under Graham Westley defeating Hartlepool 1-0.
