Charlton Athletic 1 Oldham Athletic 1
I could see that equaliser coming and I was just listening to the radio! From those at the game we just didn’t do enough after we broke the deadlock.
Powell hit the nail on the head afterwards when he said that we need to expect teams such as Oldham’s approach. Key though is to change our game to overcome it.
The goal came from Darel Russell after ages of pressure but one goal was not enough as we drew at home for the 4th time. Darel Russell has impressed since his loan move and from what I have seen and heard I would be happy if Powell was thinking of permanently adding him to the squad in January.
However I would like to ask the question of whether Russell and Hollands are a little bit too similar? Hollands appears less effective offensively since he has been paired with the loanee. Next to Hughes, Hollands was far more involved in our forward play and next to Stephens, his role perhaps was better defined. Stephens would have been a player maybe that could have unlocked our last two opponents negative style.
The radio commentator paid compliments to Paul Dickov saying that he’d had a laudable playing career. I must have missed that game. He’s always been a little toe-rag.
Anyway it was another point and my mood was far more cheery after Jordan Rhodes scored in the 96th minute at Hillsborough and then MK Dons succumbed to a Phil Brown-less Preston later as one or two of us predicted.
One niggle for me was having Euell on the bench, who apart from experience in helping us see out a game is not an obvious replacement for any of the starting XI especially Kermorgant, who played yesterday’s game like a French warrior.
A few things for Powell to ruminate on then as he finishes his Christmas shopping. Let’s hope they can give us some Boxing Day cheer a week tomorrow down in the west country.

Powell-ometer: He showed some good fighting spirit in his press conference yesterday but I find it hard to see why Euell is on the bench and not Hayes.
Elsewhere: For once the results went for us with Wednesday and Huddersfield sharing 8 goals at Hillsborough. Hopefully Jordan Rhodes got the agents restless after he helped himself to all four of Town’s goals. MK Dons lost for the first time in 7 to manager-less PNE. Sheffield United had a good win at Bournemouth and Brentford and Carlisle both drew with Bury and Wycombe respectively. Leyton Orient won 2-1 at Meadow Lane, County had a last minute penalty kick saved.
