Top of the form

In League One it’s not just Charlton on a fine run of form. We may have 5-point lead but it seems that everyone else has been winning as well and upon research they have.

Sheffield Wednesday have won six of their last seven, MK Dons have won everyone of their last seven and Sheffield United have won their last five. Now these include the FA Cup but it shows we are not alone in the high on confidence stakes.

The mark of a good team is how they react after a defeat. Huddersfield after going 43 games unbeaten (sic) have now lost two on the trot but the form of the top five has stretched the league table.

A year ago only 20 points separated Brighton at the top and Yeovil at the bottom, presently we have 34 points more than Chesterfield. 12th placed Colchester have one more point that Carlisle did in the same position 12 months ago, yet Brighton’s current total a year ago would only have them just in the Play-Off places in 6th this. Interestingly 4th at this stage last year Charlton with the same amount of points would still be in the Play-Off places.

The key of course is to keep stretching the field a bit like a Grand National with the stragglers getting lapped. Our lead may have been reduced to five, but more importantly we increased the gap to 3rd to eight points. Those horses chasing us down the straight will soon get fed up of us if we show no signs of slowing!

This weekend sees Sheffield Wednesday host Huddersfield and the equally in form Bournemouth host Sheffield United whilst MK Dons face a looking to impress Preston side, who sacked Mr Perma-tan himself Phil Brown yesterday. The grim reaper Peter Risdale must be very pleased with himself. Billy Davies and Sean O’Driscoll have been installed as the early favourites to take over. 40/1? Alan Curbishley.

Very sad to see that Peter Croker, the last remaining member of the 1947 FA Cup winning team died last week at the age of 89 and I think it’s great that the club are paying tribute to him before Saturday’s game with Oldham. We don’t seem to have done that enough in recent years.

Finally it’s nice to see the Addick feel-good factor hit the sale of the Fulham cup tickets. 5,374 have now been sold. As I said before, let’s show those parvenu’s what’s what.
