Oilers

Right three weeks on this here rock and I’m off again, this time to Houston, Texas on a work trip until Thursday night. I visited Houston once before in 2008 to visit some friends who were living there at the time. As I alluded to then, Houston is such a huge sprawling city it is hard to get any sense for the place unless you spent a lot of time there, so a three-day work trip (including two days of travel) will not give me a lot more insight into the 600 sq. mile metropolis.

Houston is recognised for its energy industry, particularly for oil and natural gas and that is the reason myself and a colleague are there, it has also getting a good reputation for football after Houston Dynamo made it into the final of the MLS Cup Final next week against David Beckham’s LA Galaxy. Twice winners Dynamo are in their 6-year history, although I was with some Houstonians last week and the only football team they were aware of was the Texans!

We are staying in the Galleria area, which from memory is one for the more upscale parts of town and walkable too. Right, cab is here. Later.

We really didn’t scratch he surface on the food front Matthew. Sadly we never got anywhere near a BBQ place. Did try grasshoppers though but they are hardly in the same food group as pork ribs!!
