Paul Hart to stay

Nottingham Forest made a big play this week to move Paul Hart back to the City Ground in a technical director role “but the Addicks were thought to want more than £500,000 in compensation for their current academy director.” (more)

We may not be filthy rich but it shows the new owners are able to demand silly money to keep key personnel and Hart obviously has an important role in the rebuilding of the club in the eyes of the board.

Hart is well liked at the City Ground and brought the likes of Michael Dawson and Jermaine Jenas through the Forest ranks before being promoted to manager, steering the club to the Championship play-offs in 2003 before his sacking less than a year later.

Forest’s intention in the aftermath of the Steve McClaren debacle was to pair either MK Dons’ Karl Robinson, former Barnsley manager Mark Robins, Exeter City’s Paul Tisdale or Aston Villa’s widely-respected coach Kevin MacDonald with Hart.

I’m glad he’s staying.

I wonder if this is the end of the matter? I hope so, Hart has a good pedigree with academy players and did well at both Forest and Leeds with his youngsters.

I hope so, but I doubt it. I think if teams are looking for an old head then I am sure Hart would be on the list and Forest do have that emotional pull for him. Interesting though that the role in the offing was not a managerial one.
