Double edged Blade

10 league games unbeaten then and as Addicks’ fans wait for the fall it is interesting to see that in quite a few of those games we have come pretty close to losing, none more so than on Tuesday night in Bletchley.

Against MK, Rochdale, Sheffield Wednesday and Bury we were under threat, but the players came through the challenge. Depending on your state of mind that proves that we are either fortunate or brave. Despite years of mental torture I like to err on the side of optimism and suggest that Powell has instilled some long lost backbone and spirit in the side and although having not watched live 8 of those 10 games I get the impression from fellow fans and the crowd encouragement as heard on the radio there is a lot more belief doing the rounds.

Over 1,000 Addicks will make the trek to Bramall Lane tomorrow for another test of our resolve. I hope Powell get’s them charged up from the beginning and not have to rely on a half-time pep talk.

One player I’d like to mention after watching the highlights of Tuesday’s game was Ben Hamer, who seems to be improving with every passing game. I wonder like we all probably do, when Powell will change his line-up. Does Hayes deserved to be dropped for Kermi? Is Danny Green fully fit? Because if he is I would certainly encourage that change with a place for Waggy on the bench to play a role later in the game. Whatever the team, it’s a good time to be an Addick.

I noticed this week that a couple of ex-Addicks made a few column inches in the media. Steve Brown joined Nicky Forster as his assistant after the ex-Brentford caretaker took over the manager’s job at Conference South side Dover Athletic. He replaced ex-Arsenal striker and older brother of Paul, Martin Hayes.

Jonjo Shelvey who has dropped down the pecking order at Anfield has signed a 3-month loan deal with Blackpool and it’ll be interesting to see him in the Championship.

Finally young midfielder Ben Davisson has joined Welling on a month’s loan.
