Young Darlo striker to join?
Young Darlington striker Michael Smith is on the train down to SE7 to meet Chris Powell with a view to sign for the Addicks before deadline day. A fee of around £100,000 has been agreed for the 19-year old who has had a lot of suitors. One for the development squad maybe?
A bid for Barnet winger Mark Marshall has been turned down. Not sure why we would need another winger, unless Powell is thinking of using Wagstaff as a striker more often.
By all accounts a Spanish centre-half called Jose Manuel Rojas from the Spanish club Club Deportivo San Roque de Lepe, with whom Tony Jimenez is connected, has also been signed. No mention of that on cafc.co.uk but it is on the Spanish club’s website.
Last night in Charlton’s answer to Cesc Fabregas long drawn out transfer, Robbie Elliot finally signed for Newcastle. The fee was annoyingly undisclosed but I would hope that the club were holding out for an amount to cover the cost of Hamer and the acquisition cost of Sullivan. Pardew has given Robbie a 5-year contract (soooo Pardew that) and the very best of luck to him. Once an Addick always an Addick.
UPDATE: 2.25pm. Michael Smith signed on 3-year deal for (wait for it) an undisclosed fee.

Six goals in 24 games plus another 14 or so games as sub does not smack of a prodigy so £100k seems rather too much…Doesn’t sound like a replacement for Benson, and is he better than what we have (Popo)?
