Any more for any more?
A day off work today as we closed the office for the US July 4th holiday. This gave me a chance to catch up with some errands and attempt to take stock of the continued incomings at Sparrows Lane.
Young goalkeeper Nick Pope officially signed for the club this morning from Bury Town as did Spanish attacking midfielder Ruben Bover Izquierdo, who impressed last season at Halesowen Town. Previously the 19-year old was on Real Mallorca’s books and was on trial with the Addicks at the end of last season, coinciding with Jeff Vetere’s involvement, unless I am reading too much into it.
What interested me about the announcement on cafc.co.uk was Powell talking of a development squad consisting of Pope, Bover-Izquierdo, Calum Harriot, Freddie Warren, Tosan Popo, Ben Davisson, Yado Mambo and Conor Gough. Nice idea and very continental in it’s thinking and I would imagine that this will lead to more reserve matches next season.
The latest player connected to the club is Sheffield Wednesday’s Michael Morrison. The Suffolk born player came through Cambridge United’s youth system and is well known to Powell from his days at Leicester, where CP would have been Morrison’ team mate and coach.
Morrison at just 21 was a key cog in Leicester’s League One title two seasons ago, but just before Powell left the Walker Stadium for his first job in management Morrison was sold to Sheffield Wednesday, however he is apparently not in new Owl’s manager Gary Megson’s plans. A fee of £275,000 has been mentioned.
Also considering a move to The Valley is fellow centre-half Karl Osborne from Brentford.

congrats on your anniversary – I was coming up for ten years in Houston but just moved back to Singapore. Idea of a development squad is great but need regular competitive games – hasn’t it been a few years since we dropped out of south east counties league or whatever it was? Plus we don’t have a large first team squad where we can give players regular games if they’re returning from injury or just plain out of favour with the boss.. Interesting to see how CP develops this.
