Two more

Tomorrow Danny Green and Dale Stephens should be unveiled at The Valley. It was generally agreed upon that Danny Green was one of the best players in last season’s 3rd Division scoring 13 goals, including two against us and having 12 assists. He is 22 and was released by Charlton as a 15-year old when we were wallowing in the Premiership poop as happy as Pinky and Perky.

The fee is set to be £400,000 with Championship clubs also believed to have had bids accepted by Dagenham & Redbridge. Perhaps now Paul Benson will have someone to put a decent cross in for him?

This afternoon Sky Sports took their head out of the Premier League’s arse to announce on their website that little old Charlton had outbid and pipped Bayern Munich to the signature of Tranmere’s excellent young prospect
Dale Jennings. Of course Twitter was falling over themselves at the absurdity of all this, but meanwhile the more sensible of us realised that there are in fact more than two Dales that play outside of the Champions League. Note to all those Sky Sports subscribers: This is what you get for your money.

Thus Dale Jennings can go back to his English – German translation book and he will not be living, at least yet, his life long dream of signing for Charlton Athletic.

Meanwhile poor old Dale Stephens was on the National Express from Oldham to have a medical at The Valley and join Danny Green as a new Charlton player tomorrow. The fee is said to be £350,000.

I know little of Stephens, in fact I know little of the majority of League One players but according to an Oldham fan he is “he’s not really fast or particularly skill-full (not in the sense he’s full of tricks and always beats his man) but he’s got a great pass on him and very good technique for this division and has got a good shot on him. He isn’t a runner or a nitty gritty tackler, but if you’ve got someone alongside him to do all that then you’ve got a very good forward thinking midfield player.” Cue Semedo departure.

Assuming these two do sign tomorrow, that will take our new midfield intake to 5.

UPDATE: Now confirmed on Official Site.

Sounds like a glass or twp of Claret in Bermuda….It’s certainly a refreshed squad for the new season with players who seem to have potential rather than last years fill in the gaps squad. Let’s hope some of these players can do just this and form a great new squad…It could be worse..A colleague who is committed to the Gunners was asking whether the chap we sold them has two legs? I assured him that he has three and he went away happy

Agreed ref. Semedo’s departure. It would appear that the club clearly wanted replacements firmly in place before our talismatic hero left. I’ll be sorry to see Semedo go as he’s been my favorite player for some years, however, in all honesty, he has also been part the problem as well given that he’s not got a creative pass in his game.

Like you and most others, I know nothing of Dale S, but a very brief spin around the internet (mainly so I could see what he looked like!!!) fed back some positive thoughts of his forward-thinking passing game. Something we’ve lacked in the last few years (in my opinion, since we lost Danny Murphy). It would appear that Saints fans quite liked him when he went there on-loan.

Agree with all of that Ted. Semedo is my favourite, I was more than happy to sponsor him last year and although I couldn’t attend the dinner, my mates who went in my place said what a nice fella he was. Good luck to him but I agree with you that he and Racon were very much part of the problem.

We have definitely missed a good passing player for a long while and it is a fallacy that one can’t thrive in Division 3.
