Not Wirral good enough

Charlton Athletic 1 Tranmere Rovers 1
We can’t be happy with that can we? Yes we stopped “the rot” but a point at home to Tranmere is simply not good enough in any context.

From the radio the first half was woeful, littered by mistakes, one of which led to Rovers goal, who by all accounts were even wasting time during the warm up hence why for the bazillionth time our game finished last in the country.

The 2nd period at least sounded better and a sparse Valley could be easily heard on the radio urging the team on. We got the equaliser with plenty of time left for a winner. Miguel Angel Llera, who appeared to have a decent game, scored with a trademark left foot free-kick.

But with plenty of time left on the shiny scoreboard we didn’t have enough to get a winner. There was at least some endeavour but little quality and even less confidence. Chances were had at both ends and once again refeering decisions went against us.

Ignoring Plymouth, who are only bottom because of administation, we have beaten just one of the bottom six at home. Hardly a fortress. Tuesday at Franchise is a real six-pointer.

CA fact: In 68 games this season Dailly and Doherty have scored a big fat zero. Llera has scored twice in nine!

I would have taken a draw before kick off, and at no point during the afternoon did I dare to wish for more.

We were, probably, not worth the draw, which is why I was so pleased not to lose – to Tranmere at home.

How the mighty have fallen. Surely it can’t get worse than this – but I know I’ve said that before and been wrong.

Charlton supporters HAVE to be disaster junkies.

I think visiting sides get a prompt to perform when they run out onto our pitch. It goes something like “this is Charlton, this is the Valley, make some noise for the boys…” It’s obviously well-intentioned but it sounds unconvincing and, frankly, a little desperate.
