My Top 5 2010 Defining CAFC moments

Yes it’s that time again for a bit of personal indulgence but I’ll start of with a Charlton one, if you promise to read the rest during the next week!

The Top 5 Defining CAFC Moments in 2010

1. Phil Parkinson, Tim Breacker and Mark Kinsella getting the sack
It didn’t happen in 2010, but it has got us Addicks in a right titter, so I can’t ignore it. A solid decent bloke, but Parky had burnt his chances and we deserve better. Now we have to wait to see if the new owners deliver us someone better.

2. Takeover by CAFC Holdings Ltd, Switzerland
This saga ran longer than Les Misérables but finally as we put the champagne on ice ready for New Years Eve, the club introduced us to the names of Michael Slater and Tony Jimenez, the club’s new owners. A champagne moment? Or a light ale?

3. Swindon Play-Off Semi Final defeat
Last season was a rollercoaster that swung us around like a rag doll. At one point in the final league game we sat in 2nd place but ended up missing the automatics by 2 points. The rollercoaster came to a juddering halt as Nicky Bailey blasted his penalty over the bar in the shoot-out.

4. Richard Murray taking 100% control of the club
I probably should have been more pissed off when Richard Murray basically rendered my shares useless and I couldn’t do anything about it, but his families generosity kept the football administration vultures from the door. And we trust him don’t we?

5. Peterborough 5-1 away victory
The most frustrating of all is that this team, this squad has occasionally showed us what it can do. Those Addicks who travelled to Peterborough in mid-November were given a real treat as we gave a fellow promotion candidate a lesson is attacking play. Was it a one-off? We hope not.

That just about sums it up. Parkie did a solid but unspectacular job and there was little excitment around the Valley despite good league positions at the end of the season and year. 2011 defining points have started already and the new manager is going to define the next 12 months. Expectations are high and the new owners are going to be under a lot of fans pressure to deliver but then do they care?

Another eventful year in the life of an Addick! Never a dull moment, eh?

    Never a dull moment Ted.

Kap – Well the new owners said that bringing the crowds back was paramount, so I hope they care a little.
