Hurricane Igor update – Sunday 9.30am
We lost power at around 3 this morning, which was strange as there really wasn’t much going on outside. It then came back intermittently but has now been off for about two hours.
According to reports 3,650 households in Bermuda are currently without power and BELCO are trying to restore it. I don’t hold out much hope.
The rain and winds are now lashing down outside and we have taped all of the windows. The good news is that Igor has been downgraded to a Category 1 storm, so winds will be at a maximum sustained strength of 90mph. Igor was once not long ago a Cat 4.
Igor is around 250 miles away and is travelling in this direction north-north west at 12mph.

Time for the tin-hat. Stay safe.
Good luck CA and family! Still got power in St Georges, but getting really wild outside. can’t see harbour now, its only 300 metres away. Garden covered in loose vegitation. Height of storm is forecast to be 11pm tonight.
Good luck Chicago: us South London types have got what it takes so I have no fears that you will pull through; peg leg et all.
Seriously, I hope you are not without power for too long and the house can take it.
Having spent 10 weeks in Lewisham hospital years ago with leg injuries I have the utmost sympathy and trust the initial pain is now disappearing in a Bermudan alcholic haze.
Current experience sholuld stand you in good stead for the next away Yeovil game.
I assume that once ithas passed over it is likely to be heading for my nephew in Virginia?
Thank you lads.
Mike – Not this one. Once Igor has kissed us it will be pushed out into the Atlantic and shouldn’t be any more danger to land.
You were right; seems to have bypassed Virgina, ut my sister in law’s parents are returning to their home in St Johns Newfoundland in anticpation of seeing a lot of damge (in.c a local bridge that has been washed away).
Blimey Mike, they got it worse up there. Cat 3 wind gusts, a lot of damage and 40,000 without power according to what I just read.

Stay safe CA. Hopefully damage will be contained and the island of Bermuda will be spared having Anderson Cooper decamped there for several days.
Thanks NYA. It is bad enough having Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel with his umbrella here, let alone AC 360!
Chicago, the latest update has it 46m west of us at 10pm, when it will be packing max 70 knt winds so fingers crossed not as bad as originally thought. Been outside to clear some fallen branches from close to the veranda windows, just about stand up! How’s your end of the rock?
