Sponsors Dinner

Tonight two of my mates will take my place at the Shirt Sponsors Dinner at The Valley. Unfortunately I couldn’t get ‘management approval’ to return home a few days earlier this week and instead will fly Friday night instead.

A couple of years back I felt inclined to support the club in some small financial way as I was no longer a season ticket holder so I made the decision to enter into a bit of shirt sponsorship. I went for Semedo last season and for this Champion year I sponsored Danny Hollands.

I went for the white away one, the home was already taken by the Charlton Life community and they will be well represented at The Valley tonight as the members sponsored 7 players in all.

I did a quick calculation and somewhat amazingly we only wore the white away shirt 6 times in the 25 away games we played! But I am pleased to report that Danny Hollands played in each one of those games scoring 3 goals including a brace in the first outing of the white kit at Rochdale and I saw Hollands in white for myself at Bournemouth in March.

Anyway, sounds as if the current away and home shirt are going away but that’s a post for another day. Tonight will be fun though and I will miss not being there to have dinner with the Champions. If anyone is going, have a glass of bubbly for me.

Pat, I think the Championship is the countries most competitive and open league. It is stuffed full of big clubs and nice stadiums and almost every team has the chance of the play-off’s. A season like Brighton have just had would do me fine.

Yup, some attractive attacking football would be good. Oh, and if we could see our way clear to beating the scum, twice, that would be good too. Enjoy the party and the summer.
