My Top Five Favourite Hotels

🔝5️⃣ I stayed in 62 hotels last year. 62. I haven’t worked out the number of nights because it might be debilitating. Many of these hotels represented just a bed and a shower on a work trip. Others however were calming sanctuaries of joy and family time.

I’ve rattled 62 down to 5 plus a couple of honourable mentions. Here are My Top Fives Favourite Hotels from 2025 🏩

My Top Five 2024 Favourite Hotels

🔝5️⃣. I stayed in 39 hotels last year, over a hundred nights not in my own bed, and there were plenty of AirBnB stays too, but I can’t get excited about them.

I do like a hotel, especially fancy ones, although sadly they weren’t always fancy. Anyway, I have selected a handful and these are my 2024 Top Five Favourite Hotels 🏨

Candlelight concert

I first started seeing my social media feeds filling up with pictures of dark eye-catching churches and historic theatres with a classical quartet sat amongst flickering candles at the end of last year, but candlelight concerts have been wowing audiences in hundreds of cities since 2020.

Candlelight Concerts has since became a successful brand under its parent company Fever, which is a global entertainment platform, and has struck upon a very winning formula.

Hurricane Irma

Like a lot of others I am sat tonight glued to CNN and the Weather Channel like it’s a drug. One of the reasons is work related. I live and breathe risk during the week, natural, human or otherwise, so what is happening in Florida and happened to those poor Caribbean islands and Texas last week has massive ramifications for us at work.

For reason’s I haven’t fathomed I seem to be rather attracted to hurricanes. I wouldn’t mind but I can’t even fly a kite. Yet in the last couple of weeks I have been in St Barts, Saint Martin, Sarasota, Tampa and Miami and I live on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that has annoyingly been a recent magnet to big storms, around 7 or 8 hurricanes in the past 5 years, once we even had two different hurricanes over consecutive weekends!

Rowdy Tampa Bay

I made it back to Bermuda last night but in line with my recent travel exploits, my luggage didn’t. Pain in the arse but less so coming home than going, except I couldn’t have a shave today so I hope my new client likes the George Michael look!

Just 18 hours in Tampa but it was certainly worth the effort. Good meetings and a great dinner in a place called Ocean Prime. Later in a bar called something Martini I was bewildered to see so many people out on a Tuesday night. I had an excuse as I was drowning a lot of sorrow, but I wondered what the good looking folk of Tampa were all going to do when they got up the next day.
