Caretaker
The very best of luck to Jacko tonight.
There has been very few managerial caretakers in my Charlton supporting time. Funny enough the best one hands down was probably Lee Bowyer, the longest caretaker of all – 6 months in total.

Real shame about losing Ben Roberts who moved to Brighton today. I was equally disappointed when Nathan Jones went the same route. Like Jones, Roberts has had a very positive impact on many of the players he has coached – Ben Hamer, Stephen Henderson, Nick Pope, Dillon Phillips, Dimitar Mitov, John Sullivan, Ben Alnwick, David Button. The list goes on.

Despite it being no surprise to any Addick, confirmation of Joe Gomez’s transfer to Liverpool today has left me with an air of despondency. This has not been helped by the apparent readiness with which Ben Roberts is talking to Brighton about moving there as their goalkeeping coach, after Katrien Meire gave the parties permission.
Despite the fee being typically undisclosed by Charlton (Liverpool historically have been happy to announce fees) all of the media outlets are stating that Gomez signed for £3.5m on a 5-year deal. Meanwhile those in the club have attempted to squash that and say it is higher. Whatever it is, Charlton fans will want to see all of the sale money redistributed back into the squad and not Roland Duchatelet’s network.

What a shambles.
Very few times in my years as a Charlton Athletic fan can I ever predict a result or a performance, because we have always been so unpredictable, save the days of games against Manchester United, or the FA Cup.
However today’s defeat was a dead cert, but despite this 2,024 Addicks spent hard earned money to travel and watch the team they love, and gave the players total backing for the entire game. And this was their reward.

“Charlton are disappointed to announce that Guy Luzon will not be able to take charge of the team at Watford on Saturday due to issues with his UK work permit.” (more)
You couldn’t make it up could you.

I was quite expecting no further comment from the club yesterday, until late in the day Katrien Meire did follow up with comments on cafc.co.uk.
Meire said that the decision was only taken after the game on Saturday, which seems both unlikely and a little too impetuous. I don’t believe her, nor does Bob, especially knowing of recent informed reports from the Israeli media about Guy Luzon, and the fact that Karel Faraeye was at the Cardiff game, but after her comments in the programme on Saturday, I expect Roland Duchâtelet allowed her, a lawyer, to choose her own words.
It doesn’t matter now, what does is who is appointed next as the 4th manager/head coach in 10 months.
