Pueblo blanco
The quintessential white village or pueblo blanco of Mijas Pueblo is surprisingly quite high, sat at an altitude of 436 metres (1,476 feet). It is majestically shoe-horned into a steep verdant cliffside overlooking the rest of the Costa del Sol.
Although most of Spain is at a higher altitude, this beautiful little town with its moorish architecture deserves to lord it over many of its bigger rivals.
Mijas for us was mostly about doing nothing, but the three of us find that hard to do, so we did get a chance to explore a little of it.
Our hotel was nestled a bit nearer the coast in a lush valley surrounded by golf courses, but following a short taxi ride we looked out from miradors, visited the unusually oval bullring, which is now a museum and drunk coffee in the Plaza de la Constitución.
We are sadly leaving today, heading to the capital Madrid, which is 646m (2,119 ft) above sea level.
Like you CA we love Mijas Pueblo and we visit the town every time we stay in Mijas Costa…..delighted you enjoyed your visit and the views over the coastline are stunning.
I’m hoping Charlton play a pre-season game again in the area.
Did they play out there previously?
Yes CA a few years ago and I seem to recall it was in the Mijas area on a pre season warm.up.
It was to Malaga region 2023/4 season under Dean Holden management.
CA, I am sure that you know Madrid well. It is different now to when I spent a lot of time there but it is still my favourite European capital.
