Millenic Alli signs
A name that was mentioned in the past couple of days. Whether he is a poor man’s Abu Kamara (also linked) remains to be seen.
£1.5m the fee for the Luton winger, who had mostly an impressive spell on loan at Portsmouth last season. He was partly responsible for their change in fortunes and did rip us apart in the game against us at The Valley.
He is another ex-Luton player but way after Jones’ time, but Phil Chapple would have been part responsible alongside Matt Bloomfield who signed him in January 2025 from Exeter City in an effort to prevent the Hatters getting relegated. They still did.
Alli is quick, and positive and will get you up the pitch. Qualities desperately missing from us last season.
Luton and Pompey fans talk of an exciting player, but in equal measures frustrating. Final ball poor, doesn’t track back etc., but in all honestly fans can say that about a million wingers outside of the elite.
Born in Dublin, and he has a Republic cap, he came through Bury’s academy and his early career does read a bit like a A-Z.
He has moved around a lot, but it was Gary Caldwell at Exeter that spotted his talents (Exeter do that well) and plucked him from National League Halifax. In January 2024.
He shone for the Grecians and was off to Luton a year later after scoring 13 goals in 35 games. He then scored 4 in 16 in The Championship for Luton, not bad for a wide player in a struggling team.
He might not be the most exciting of signings, but I think he will be a player that will get our bum’s off our seats. We’ve been short of those in past, albeit successful, season’s.
I’m hopeful we can pull off the Kamara signing too, we’ll see. It does look as if the club are signing players in position’s first. Defenders, then wide players. What’s next?
Welcome to The Valley, Milli.

Perhaps TC will move in the opposite direction
He mostly plays left-wing I think…while Abu Kamara is a right-winger by trade. So competition for TC.
I assume this means the end of our involvement with Nathan Redmond – as you pointed out in another article, he didn’t feature yesterday.
It’s also perhaps a stronger clue that we’ll play 4-2-3-1, a solid back four shielded by two DMs means tracking back is not as important as it was when we were playing 5-3-2.
As with all signings I’ll support them and make up my mind once I’ve seen them play.
Me too, SP.
Good other points as usual.
CA, we can’t he disappointed with the announcements regarding new signings but I cant help worry if they possess sufficient quality to keep us up next season. There’s no doubt we’re shopping in the bargain isle and can’t compete with most of the other Championship teams, I think if we can avoid relegation this season, given how competitive its likely to be, that can be regarded as success. Fingers 🤞
Definitely not in Waitrose are we?
A positive conversation would be:
Is Mesik better than Chambers?
Is Koumetio better than Gillesphey?
Is Grant better than Kanu?
Is McNamara better than Clarke?
Is Alli better than Fevrier?
To answer my own question. Or at least add to the debate – what I really want to see is first team starters. Players that become an instant on the team sheet.
I’m hoping a couple of those are still to come in.
I can see a theme with the defenders – they are physical.
Koumetio is tall and looks like he can handle himself, he’s ex-Liverpool so you’d hope there’s a touch of quality and grit there. Lloyd Jones took a similar route to him and that worked out well.
McNamara has one 49 yellow cards in his career, but from what I can see, no reds, that suggests he knows how to leave a few bruises here and there but not go over the top too often.
Mesik looks like a no prisoners will be taken left back – my prediction is assuming he starts that he’ll win the first yellow card of the season and possibly also the first red.
You wouldn’t want to get in an argument with any of these three.
😀😀
We need a big squad to cope with the suspensions!
Good one CA, grant as more experience at this level I wouldn’t sell kanu another loan to a league on club, on alli showing at the valley last year probably slightly better, I think mesik we can’t comment much never seen him play much, McNamara like for like for me, koumetio my son and I seen play for Dundee a couple of times while visiting relatives could be a good addition, players in kamara , hosgrove and if a bit of a wild card aribo
I think if Aribo joins it will be very late in the window.
I agree CA, forgot to mention need a upgrade on the goalkeeper front kaminski not good enough, go for the guy from Wrexham
Agree with you there, but suspect it is not in the budget.
He’s not in our budget, he would be in the Waitrose aisle!
He most definitely would. Also a took sell to get someone to love from play off contender to relegation battler.
The Sheffield Wednesday keeper would have been a better bargain.
Could we not have signed Jayden Fevrier, I thought he was mustard.
Ha ha 🤣 …
